Class Description
Beginner Class This class will focus on the basics of grammar and expressions at an elementary level of Korean. It will also focus on improving students’ basic speaking and listening skills needed in life through various activities.
Intermediate Class This class will focus on improving students’ understanding of the Korean culture as well as their Korean proficiency, through topics on Korean culture found in their daily life.
Advanced Class This class will focus on improving students’ speaking and writing skills by reading various genres of articles such as magazines, news, and literature.

Credit Course

  • Korean Language Education Program for Exchange Students
    Each semester, the KLEC offers exchange students structured Korean language courses from beginner, intermediate, to advanced levels for credit.

Commissioned Program

  • Critical Language Scholarship Program
    The KLEC of CBNU hosted the “Critical Language Scholarship Program” commissioned by the U.S. Department of State for three consecutive years from 2010 to 2012, which was unprecedented among national universities in Korea. The KLEC provided a summer language and cultural program at its facilities in Jeonju, the most traditional city in Korea, for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students during the summer for three years.
  • Individualized Korean Immersion Program
    The KLEC provides a variety of tailored programs as well as regular programs for foreign students. In 2013 and 2014, the KLEC offered an advanced one-on-one Korean language training and cultural experience program to civil service employees from the United States.
  • Korean as a Second Language Program for School Teachers
    As the flagship university in Jeollabuk province, CBNU is creating a Korean language education program for multi-cultural students in a growing multi-cultural Korean society. In cooperation with the Jeollabuk-do Office of Education, the KLEC is offering a KSL (Korean as a Second Language) teaching program, for teachers faced with the need to teach the increasing number of multi-ethnic students in Korean schools.

Special Project

  • KSL Teacher Training Program
    The KLEC offers the Korean Language Teacher Training Program, covering five fields of education, including a 120-hour practicum. This program is specifically designed to develop KSL teaching experts as authorized by th National Institute of Korean Language.
  • Official TOPIK Test Center
    Many international test-takers have taken the TOPIK (Test Of Proficiency In Korean) test here at the KLEC since it was designated in 2009 as the only TOPIK test center in Jeollabuk-do by the National Institute for International Education. The test is required for students pursuing a degree program at any university in Korea, and provides learners of Korean the opportunity to attain proficiency certification prior to returning to their home country.
