Intensive Korean Language Course

The Intensive Korean Language Course was designed to help foreign students who want to apply for undergraduate or graduate school in Korea, to learn the Korean language systematically. There are 6 levels in this course, from level 1 to level 6 to meet the demands of students at different levels of proficiency. Students from around the world, who want to speak Korean fluently, are taking this course.

Level Goal TOPIK
Beg. level1 Able to carry out basic conversations related to daily survival skills such as self-introduction, purchasing, ordering food, etc; understanding the contents related to very personal and familiar subjects such as himself/herself, family, hobbies, weather and the like. TOPIK Ⅰ
Able to create simple sentences based on about 800 basic vocabulary and possess understanding of basic grammar.
Able to understand and compose simple and useful sentences related to everyday life.
level2 Able to carry out simple conversations related to daily routines such as making phone calls and asking favors, as well as using public facilities in daily life. TOPIK Ⅰ
Able to use about 1,500 to 2,000 vocabulary words and understand personal and familiar subjects in certain order, such as paragraphing.
Able to use formal expressions and informal expressions accordingly depending on the situation.
Inter. level3 Able to perform basic linguistic functions necessary to use various public facilities and maintain social relationships, not experiencing significant difficulty in routine life. TOPIK Ⅱ
Able to carry out a daily routine, with fair use of public facilities and able to socialize without significant difficulties.
Able to express or understand social subjects familiar to himself/herself, as well as specific subjects, based on paragraph. Able to understand and use the spoken language based on their distinctive basic characteristics.
level4 Perform linguistic functions necessary to use various public facilities and maintain social relationships, and carry out the function to some degree which is necessary for the performance of ordinary works.
Able to use various public facilities, socialize, and carry out some degree of ordinary work.
TOPIK Ⅱ
Able to understand easy parts in news broadcasts, newspapers, and understand and use the expressions related to social and abstract subjects relatively correctly and fluently.
Able to understand social and cultural subjects, based on the understanding of Korean culture and frequently used idiomatic expressions.
Adv. level5 Able to perform linguistic function to some degree which is necessary for research and work in professional fields. TOPIK Ⅱ
Able to understand and use the expressions related to unfamiliar aspects of politics, economics, society, and culture.
Able to use expressions properly, depending on formal, informal, spoken/written context.
level6 Able to perform linguistic functions necessary for research and work in professional fields relatively correctly and fluently. TOPIK Ⅱ
Able to understand and use the expressions related to unfamiliar subjects of politics, economics, society, and culture.
Experience no difficulty in performing functions or conveying the meaning, although the proficiency has not reached full native speaker proficiency.

Information Details
Duration 10 weeks per term
Hours of Instruction 200 hours (4 hours/day X 5days/week X 10 weeks)
(Morning class: 09:00~13:00, Afternoon class: 13:00~17:00)
Level Level 1 to Level 6
(Newcomers’ Korean level will be determined by a placement test)
Class Size 15 to 20
Class Days Monday through Friday (5 days per week)
Conditions for Completion Students must get an average of 70 out of 100 or more and attend at least 80% of the course, which is equivalent to 160 hours in total.
(Score Breakdown: Exam-70%, Attendance-20%, Participation-10%)
Tuition 1,300,000 KRW (Textbooks are not included in the fees and are not refundable after the first week of the term)
※ The tuition fees are for one term(10 weeks) during the 2015 academic year and may change when academic year changes.

Cultural Experience Program with Intensive KLEC Course

Each term, students have the opportunity to learn about Korean culture and become more motivated to study the Korean language. Students with various levels of Korean and from diverse nationalities are able to communicate with each other and enjoy these experiences together through their use of Korean.
